Dwight Gayle scored three in Newcastle’s 4-3 victory over Norwich.
Having scored three goals and gone home with the match ball, Dwight Gayle might not be too happy to find that his first hat-trick ball for Newcastle has been branded with the nickname ‘Teeth’.
Gayle’s teammates all signed the ball after the game, with Matt Ritchie’s message to the striker particularly amusing.
The Scotland international wrote on Gayle’s ball “well done Teeth”, in reference to the striker’s rather prominent facial features.
Newcastle’s number nine completed an epic comeback at St. James’ Park in the 96th minute on what was a famous night on Tyneside.
Gayle had put the Magpies in front after 24 minutes, but the Canaries found themselves 3-1 up in the 69th minute. Gayle immediately hit back to get his second, then Yoan Gouffran equalised in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
The drama was not done there, when Gayle finished neatly to get his hat-trick and give Newcastle all three points.
There were incredible scenes at the end, with striker Mitrovic taking out the goalscorer in amongst the celebrations, then hoisting Rafael Benitez into the air after the full-time whistle.
The celebrations at the end, combined with Ritchie’s less-than-flattering nickname for Gayle shows the camaraderie in the Newcastle squad, which has been missing in recent years.
