Newcastle United recently signed Matt Ritchie from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window.
Matt Ritchie has explained to The Chronicle why Rafael Benitez signed him for Newcastle United.
Championship club Newcastle recruited Ritchie from Premier League outfit Bournemouth earlier month.
The 26-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Magpies, who had to pay the Cherries a transfer fee of £12 million, as reported by The Daily Mail.
The Scotland international believes that Newcastle manager Benitez signed him due to his experience of playing in the Championship.
“It’s a big part of why he has brought me in,” Ritchie told The Chronicle regarding his experience of playing in the Championship.
“I played in the Championship for a couple of years and hopefully, I can emulate what I had at Bournemouth with Newcastle and have an impact.”
Ritchie has experience of playing in the Championship with Bournemouth, who are now in the Premier League.
The winger scored 15 goals and created 98 chances in 46 Championship matches for the Cherries during the 2014-15 campaign.
The 26-year-old scored four goals and created 40 chances in 37 Premier League games for Bournemouth last season.
Newcastle will be aiming to finish in the top two of the Championship next season and gain automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
The Magpies are building up a strong team, having also signed striker Dwight Gayle from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window so far.
