Seven Newcastle United players have scored their nine Premier League goals this season.
Matt Ritchie has told The Chronicle that it’s “great to see” Newcastle United boasting a whole host of goal threats this season rather than one man doing all the work.
Newcastle have scored nine Premier League goals this season and seven different players – Joselu, Ciaran Clark, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Jamal Lascelles, Christian Atsu, Isaac Hayden and Ayoze Perez – have contributed to that.
Dwight Gayle was the Magpies’ go-to-guy in the Championship last season as the £10 million signing managed 23 league goals to help Rafael Benitez’s side win promotion.
But there seems to be a whole lot more balance in Benitez’s squad with regards to goals now, and Ritchie, a £12 million signing from Bournemouth, says it’s a big positive.
He told The Chronicle: “We’ve shown this season that we’ve got goals right through the team.
“The two lads who scored at the weekend were getting their first goals of the season, and it’s great to see everybody chipping in. “That’s what we need.
“We need goals and assists from everywhere, and if you’re getting that from all over the pitch, it can only be a good thing.”
It has been a decent return to top-flight football for United, who sit ninth in the Premier League table with 11 points from a possible 36.
Things could be better, but they could also be a lot worse and fans of the St James’s Park club can’t be too displeased with what they have seen thus far.
Benitez and co host bottom-of-the-table Crystal Palace on Saturday, though the Eagles will travel up North fresh off the back of their 2-1 win over champions Chelsea so that one isn’t as straight forward as it may have looked this time last week.
