Matt O’Riley has posted on Twitter for the first time as a Celtic player after completing a deal from English side MK Dons on Thursday. The young midfielder has been in superb form for the third-tier side this season.

O’Riley, 21, has had a hand in 12 goals during his 26 appearances for MK Dons this season. Despite his tender age, the playmaker has even captained his side in four of those 26 league games. Celtic have pounced.

The Record believe a fee of £1.5million has changed hands, a big fee for a player that was currently in the third tier of English football. O’Riley has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal until the summer of 2026.

The ex-Fulham man will now be competing for a place in Ange Postecoglou’s side with the likes of David Turnbull and Tom Rogic. O’Riley posted a message on Twitter, and gave his verdict on Celtic fans.

O’Riley Tweet: Where could Postecoglou use new Celtic signing?

With Postecoglou using a 4-3-3 system, O’Riley is best suited to playing in the two more attacking midfielders in front of Callum McGregor. But the midfielder is also more than capable of playing as the anchor.

It gives Celtic more options – after already signing Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. Both made their debuts on Monday against Hibernian, with Japan international Hatate earning the man-of-the-match award in the 2-0 win.

O’Riley is a really exciting signing for Celtic and the belief is that Celtic have got themselves a bargain in the midfielder. At 21, he is one for the future with the quality to improve Celtic right now.
