Wolverhampton Wanderers are top of the Championship, but do they need another striker?

Matt Murray has said on Sky Sports that Wolverhampton Wanderers will try and sign two players in the January transfer window.

Wolves restored their four-point cushion at the summit of the Championship with a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Birmingham City last night.

The ever-reliable Leo Bonatini maintained his fantastic goalscoring form by grabbing an eighth-minute winner for what was his 12th league goal of the campaign.

The Brazilian marksman, on loan from Al-Hilal, is spearheading Wolves’ Premier League promotion bid but he has very little in the way of stand-out competition.

Portuguese winger Diogo Jota is second in the goalscoring charts with nine but it’s clear that manager Nuno Espirito Santo needs another striker in the event that the well runs dry for Bonatini.

And Murray, who spent 12 years at Molineux, said briefly on Sky Sports that Nuno would get another number nine, and another right wing-back option to compete with the impressive Matt Doherty.

“Wolves will look to get another number nine and maybe a right wing-back in the January window,” he said.

Saturday’s visit of Sunderland should, in theory, represent another win for Nuno’s side, with the Black Cats 23rd in the Championship, but perhaps Chris Coleman’s side need a game like this to get themselves out of their funk.
