Southampton’s coffers have been boosted by the £75 million sale of ex-Celtic man Virgil van Dijk.
Former Southampton midfielder Matt Le Tissier would back a move for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele in January.
Saints are one of several Premier League sides to have been linked with a move for Dembele, who has scored 40 goals in 69 games since signing for the Bhoys in 2016.
Southampton sold ex-Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk to Liverpool in a record £75 million deal this week, of which the Scottish champions will see £9.5 million according to the Telegraph.
Speaking to Talksport on Friday, Le Tissier stated his belief his old side “will be looking for forward players” with their share of the money, but could more be on its way to Celtic Park?
“I think he’s a good player, yeah,” the 49-year-old said of Dembele. “I’m not sure what kind of money Celtic would be asking for him.
“But the scouting network at Southampton has been pretty good, I think I’m happy to kind of trust those guys that have done so well the last few years with the ins and outs, and hopefully they can pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat.”
Southampton have averaged exactly a goal a game in the Premier League this season, with Charlie Austin (six) the only Saints player to have found the net on more than three occasions.
Austin was barely used at the start of the campaign, but has scored five times in as many starts since late November.
