Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin left Southampton for Manchester United in the summer of 2015.
Matt Le Tissier has suggested on social networking site Twitter that Virgil van Dijk will be an important player for Southampton this season if he does not leave in the summer transfer window.
Van Dijk is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.
According to The Times, Liverpool are interested in signing the former Celtic star, with defending Premier League champions Chelsea also credited with an interest.
Chelsea are ready to offer Southampton as much as £50 million in order to secure the services of the defender, according to The Times.
“Liverpool publicly withdrew their interest in Van Dijk after Southampton’s tapping-up threat but could return with a formal bid before the end of the transfer window,” states the report in The Times.
It has also been reported that the 26-year-old centre-back has been training on his own after informing Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino that he wants to leave St. Mary’s Stadium.

The former England international attacking midfielder, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has pointed out a similar situation with Morgan Schneiderlin back in the summer of 2014.
Back in the summer of 2014, Schneiderlin was linked with moves to Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, according to The Express.
The France international midfielder himself told The Express in October 2014 that he wanted to leave and had held a meeting with the Saints.
The 27-year-old remained at Southampton for the 2014-15 season and played well before leaving Manchester United in the summer of 2015.
The Frenchman switched to Merseyside outfit Everton in January 2017 for an initial transfer fee of £20 million and £24m in add-ons, according to The Guardian.
