Much was expected of Javier Hernandez when the former Manchester United striker joined West Ham United in the summer of 2017, but the Mexico international has failed to make a huge impact at the London Stadium so far this season.
The 29-year-old striker, who cost the Hammers £16 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017 according to BBC Sport, has scored five goals in 12 starts in the Premier League so far this season.
The former United striker has been linked with moves away from the Hammers in the January transfer window, with his agent Eduardo Hernandez recently telling The Express that the Mexico international wants to leave for a club where he can play regularly.
Earlier this month, Sky Sports claimed that the Hammers will listen to offers for the striker.
With West Ham struggling for survival in the Premier League at the moment, David Moyes’s side could do with someone of Hernandez’s quality and experience.
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has given his take on the situation of Hernandez at West Ham, suggesting that he is surprised that the Hammers are reportedly willing to let him go.
Le Tissier said on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports Premier League last Saturday afternoon (2:33pm, January 27, 2018): “It’s strange because you read reports that they are willing to let him go.
“When you have got somebody like that in your squad, surely when you have somebody who knows where the goal is like that, he is always useful to have around the place, even if you are not going to start him every game.”
