Matt Le Tissier suggests Spurs miss Christian Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur won their latest Premier League clash, but did not capture the imagination with their performance.

Matt Le Tissier told Sky Sports that Tottenham desperately missed Christian Eriksen as Mauricio Pochettino’s men made hard work of securing the three points from their Premier League clash with Cardiff City on Saturday.

Spurs moved up to third in the table after Eric Dier’s early strike proved to be the game’s only goal. The home side dominated possession against the newly-promoted Bluebirds, but could not find a second and came under a bit of pressure at times.

It was not a performance that will live long in the memory. And Le Tissier suggested that Spurs not having Eriksen available was a key reason why they were not able to kill Cardiff off.

“I think this boy is an incredible footballer, he’s one of my favourites to watch and they do miss what he gives the team,” he told Sky Sports.

“He gives the team something that nobody else in the team does, he sees a pass better than anyone else and the sooner he is back in the side the better team Spurs will be.”

The playmaker has probably not been at his best this term, providing just two assists in six league games so far. He is also yet to score in the league – though he did find the back of the net against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, it will be a huge boost if he returns to action immediately after the international break. Three of Tottenham’s four league games before the break in November see Pochettino’s men playing away from home, while their only league game at home comes against Manchester City.

And with the crucial double-header with PSV Eindhoven also coming in the next batch of fixtures, Eriksen’s return could be exactly what they need as they look to keep their hopes of progressing out of their Champions League group alive.
