The Saints legend also hinted towards departures by suggesting the club “would like some money coming in” before splashing out on new signings.

Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has very much hit the ground running on his return to the club as an official ambassador.
According to the official Saints website, part of the retired striker’s new role will see him involved with the club’s work in the community, as well as its activities around the world.
As a true stalwart of the south coast club, Le Tiss has also been checking out some of the training sessions, with Ralph Hasenhuttl striving to mould his players into a side fit to beat relegation from the Premier League.
Speaking to the Southern Daily Echo, the 50-year-old expressed his delight at how the former RB Leipzig head coach is not urging the club’s board to sign multiple players, instead opting to see what his current crop has to offer.
That said, Le Tissier believes that some reinforcements wouldn’t go amiss, and has told the outlet he thinks two positions in particular need strengthening, but also suggested there may be some outgoings to bring in money before they can reinvest.

“I think we could do with a top quality centre-back, we’re probably lacking in that department a little bit,” said Le Tiss, who nonetheless feels Jan Bednarek, Maya Yoshida and Jannik Vestergaard are doing well.
Le Tiss also thinks the front line should be bolstered, adding: “Everybody would like a goalscorer to complement Danny [Ings] but the club would like some money coming in before they splash out.”
