Matt Le Tissier has told Sky Sports that he believes Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the top four of the Premier League, but only on one condition – Christian Eriksen returns to fitness and remains available.

Spurs have begun the campaign in the kind of form you would expect from Mauricio Pochettino’s side, winning six of their eight Premier League outings but suffering defeats to Watford and Liverpool. They sit in fifth place.

However, Pochettino’s side have showed signs of tiredness, especially against Inter Milan where they were leading 1-0 until the last 10 minutes, only to suffer a 2-1 defeat at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

They have also suffered a defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League, leaving their participation in Europe under threat. Le Tissier believes a top-four place will be theirs, though, if Eriksen returns sooner rather than later.

“I think I will go with Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs for the top four as long as Christian Eriksen doesn’t spend to long out of the team, because I think Tottenham miss him quite a bit,” Le Tissier said.

“Manchester United have got some ground to make up if they are going to be in contention. I’d say the ones that have disappointed have been Manchester United, and to a certain extent, Tottenham.”

Eriksen, 26, has missed Spurs last four games in all competitions against Watford, Cardiff City, Huddersfield and Barcelona, as he continues to overcome a stomach problem that has caused some stir in the media.

Denmark manager Age Hareide said he could be suffering from a chronic problem, but Eriksen’s agent has since weighed in on the issue, stating that his client is not suffering from anything chronic.
