Son Heung-min stood out for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Matt Le Tissier has told Sky Sports that he felt sorry for Stoke City right-back Tom Edwards because of how “outstanding” Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min was at Wembley on Saturday.
Tottenham romped to a 5-1 victory over the Potters yesterday to leapfrog North London rivals Arsenal into fifth place and pick up a first Premier League win in five games.
City boss Mark Hughes gave the 18-year-old a first game since the 7-2 defeat at Manchester City back in September, but Edwards seemed to struggle with the South Korean attacker, who fired Spurs 2-0 ahead after Ryan Shawcross’s own goal gifted Mauricio Pochettino’s side a narrow half-time lead.
Son made way for Fernando Llorente in the dying minutes as Tottenham fans acknowledged his contribution with a standing ovation, and Le Tissier could not speak highly enough about the 25-year-old.
He told Sky Sports: “Son was brilliant. He really was. He got subbed toward the end to a standing ovation.
“He was the one stand-out player in that first half. He carried the whole team in that first half: his energy and he gave the young lad at right-back for Stoke a bit of a torrid time. I felt a bit sorry for him because he [Son] was almost unplayable at times and I just thought he was the outstanding player on the pitch today.”
Son struggled for regular spots in Pochettino’s best XI earlier in the campaign, but he is certainly establishing himself as a hugely important player of the squad.
