Southampton are currently in a whole world of trouble.
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier shared how he is expecting an upturn in form for his former club, when writing a column for Sky Sports, highlighting the appointment of Mark Hughes as something that could prove to be crucial to their hopes of avoiding the drop this season.
The Saints are currently sitting precariously in 17th position in the Premier League table, just one point clear of the drop zone, following a woeful run of form that has seen them win just one league game since November 26th.
Mark Hughes’ appointment as manager at St Mary’s is expected to coincide with an turnaround in form for Southampton, and with some of the challenging fixtures that lie ahead of them, they will certainly need to show more than they have done in recent weeks and months.
Le Tissier, who scored 212 goals for the Saints, explained why he is backing his former club to retain their Premier League status this season, when writing his column for Sky Sports:
“I’m expecting a bit of a new manager bounce from Mark Hughes and the next league game is absolutely massive for us against West Ham, which will hopefully drop them further in it.”
Next up for the Saints is a trip to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup on Sunday, but their attention will surely be on their Premier League clash with West Ham on March 31st, where nothing less than a win will do for Hughes’ men.
