The Sky Sports pundit was perplexed over what the West Ham United man did.
Matt Le Tissier has said on Sky Sports that West Ham United’s Arthur Masuaku is guilty of a “shocking bit of defending” following his penalty concession in Saturday’s 4-2 defeat by West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
West Ham’s summer signing conceded a needless penalty at the weekend by handling the ball when it was seemingly heading for safety.
Nacer Chadli stepped up and scored West Brom’s first of three first-half goals in the West Midlands, with the ex-Spurs man scoring again on 56 minutes to make it 4-0.
In football, the first goal is vital and given how preventable it was on this occasion, it could be argued that Masuaku’s moment of madness tipped the game in the Baggies’ favour for the rest of the match.
Speaking to Sky Sports afterwards, Le Tissier was relatively perplexed by the actions of Slaven Bilic’s £6 million signing (the figure according to Sky Sports).
“The moment of the match came very early on in this game; eighth minute, cross goes into the West Ham box and Arthur Masuaku, I’m not sure what he was thinking, sticks out his arm, gives West Brom a penalty. It was a shocking bit of defending.”
The only positive for West Ham fans is that each week brings them closer to the return of Aaron Cresswell, whom Masuaku was brought in to replace in the short term.
Cresswell was ruled out for four months with ankle ligament damage in July, so the Irons may need to make do with the 22-year-old until November.
