Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse was at the heart of Wilfried Zaha’s red card.

Matt Le Tissier has told Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday (broadcast on 2/2; 2:15pm) that he was not happy with Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse’s reaction to Wilfried Zaha’s red card during the Saints’ recent draw with Crystal Palace.

Zaha performed superbly at St Mary’s last week as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw. It was his goal that put the Eagles in front before Ward-Prowse equalised late on. But the Palace forward did not see the game out.

Zaha took exception to a challenge from Ward-Prowse and seemed to get booked for raising his arm towards the Saints ace and then remonstrating with the referee. And when he sarcastically applauded Andre Marriner’s decision to book him, the official swiftly showed him another yellow and he was sent off with a few minutes remaining.

As Zaha was being sent off, Ward-Prowse turned to the crowd and celebrated the red card. And Le Tissier admitted that he did not like how the midfielder reacted.

“Yeah I don’t like to see that,” he told Soccer Saturday. “That’s not a great reaction to be honest with you. That’s not what I like to see.”

While Le Tissier criticised that moment, he certainly will only have positive things to say about his current form. Ward-Prowse has always had the talent to thrive in the Premier League, but something appears to have clicked under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

He has scored three goals in his last four top flight appearances, and he is certainly proving to be one of the men that Hasenhuttl is putting his faith in to turn their fortunes around.
