Speaking to the club’s official website, Rangers goalkeeper Matt Gilks has admitted his disappointment at conceding Celtic’s late winner in the Scottish League Cup semi-final.

The Gers were beaten 1-0 by their fierce rivals at Hampden Park on Sunday as a superb flick from Moussa Dembele in the 87th minute found its way into the Rangers net.

In truth it was more than Brendan Rodgers team deserved, having enjoyed 58% of the possession and registering 24 shots in total throughout the game.

The scoreline could have been much worse had it not been for the goalkeeper heroics of Matt Gilks, who made a number of saves to keep their opponents at bay.

And the ‘keeper has admitted he was disappointed to concede that late goal after his efforts.

“We are disappointed to concede late on after fighting so hard throughout the game to stay in it or to go on and try to win it,” he told the club’s official website.

“I’m glad to do my bit for the team and that’s what that is about with this squad and this team and the players that we have. I was able to do my part today, but unfortunately not right until the end.”

After this disappointing defeat, Rangers must now turn their attention back to moving up the Scottish Premiership table.

They find themselves in fifth place at present, with 15 points from their nine games of the campaign.

That means they are currently seven points behind leaders Celtic and three behind Aberdeen in second and they will be keen to close those gaps in the coming weeks.
