Matt Fitzpatrick will be hopeful of winning the second major of his career this week at The Open Championship.

Fitzpatrick also has a vested interest in the England vs Argentina World Cup semi final clash the day before the start of The Open.

The 31-year-old Englishman is a huge soccer fan, so the game on Wednesday will be of huge importance to him.

However, Matt Fitzpatrick is obviously prioritizing his preparation for The Open Championship.

Fitzpatrick is one of the favorites heading into The Open this week, and he is a far more well rounded player than he was four years ago when he won his first major championship.

And ahead of the tournament this week at Royal Birkdale, Fitzpatrick made a plea to the R&A.

Matt Fitzpatrick’s plea to Open organizers ahead of England vs Argentina

The World Cup semi-final clash between England and Argentina is a highly-anticipated one, especially given the rivalry between the two countries.

Fitzpatrick addressed the media at Royal Birkdale on Monday afternoon ahead of the start of The Open later this week.

The Englishman responded when asked whether he plans to watch the England World Cup game on Wednesday night.

If anyone’s listening, I really hope it’s a late/early. It would be nice if all the English lads were late/early. That would be great, Fitzpatrick said.

Obviously a long day yesterday. My plan was anyway to have a light Monday. It was probably a little bit lighter than planned. I won’t go and play any holes. I’ve done a bit of putting and hitting already today and kind of just do some recovery after this and take it easy.

Yeah, I kept having to count the hours of sleep I had on Saturday. I’m like, well, if I go to bed at this time, and I kept getting surprised at how little we ended up having. I couldn’t believe the fog came in so early again.

Matt Fitzpatrick gets his Open wish

Fortunately for Fitzpatrick, he got lucky with the draw.

He has, in fact, been given a late tee time on Thursday, meaning that he will be able to watch the England vs Argentina game on Wednesday night, regardless of how late it finishes.

The Englishman is set to tee off at 3:15 pm alongside Rory McIlroy and Xander Schauffele.

That will give him more than enough time to enjoy a leisurely morning before heading to the golf course to begin his routine.

Matt Fitzpatrick’s primary wish will obviously be to win The Open Championship. However, England beating Argentina in the World Cup semi-final would give him and his fellow Englishmen a real feel-good factor ahead of the opening round at Birkdale on Thursday.
