Mats Hummels has taken to Twitter to pay tribute to the atmosphere inside Celtic Park during Celtic’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Tuesday night.

The Hoops may have seen their slim hopes of reaching the knockout stages dashed by the Bundesliga giants at Parkhead, but it was another hugely impressive showing from Brendan Rodgers’ men.

The Bhoys lost 2-1, but had gone into the final 15 minutes level at 1-1 with Callum McGregor sending the ground into a frenzy with a neat finish to level the game up after James Forrest’s sensational through ball.

Bayern would secure the three points however, as Javi Martinez put the visitors back in front three minutes after McGregor’s equaliser to ensure that they would be going through, leaving Rodgers’ men to battle it out with Anderlecht for the Europa League qualification spot.

It may have been a night which ended in defeat, but there is no question that Celtic sent an impressive statement out with their spirited display – and understandably, the fans helped create the kind of atmosphere that will see the night remembered extremely fondly by most who were there.

One of those who will clearly remember it fondly is Hummels, who took to social media in the wake of the win for Bayern – for which, he was an unused substitute – to comment on the experience of being at the home of the Scottish Premiership champions.
