Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised defenders Joe Gomez and Joep Matip on the club’s official website.
Klopp has said that people forget just how good centre-backs Gomez and Matip are.
The Liverpool manager made the comments while discussing the impact Netherlands international central defender Virgil van Dijk is having on the team now.
Van Dijk suffered a long-term injury in October last year and did not play again last season.
Liverpool have won both of their Premier League games so far this season.
Klopp told Liverpool’s official website: “The package of Virgil van Dijk is really helpful.
“I like talking about Virgil but I don’t like when we talk about last season [that it’s about] ‘Virgil van Dijk didn’t play’.
“Just to mention again, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip didn’t play as well which didn’t make the situation easier and people tend to forget how good they are.”

Good management
Klopp publicly praising Gomez and Matip when asked about Van Dijk shows the kind of manager the Liverpool boss is.
The German knows that Van Dijk is the best central defender in his team, but he also wants the other players to feel important.
After all, if you keep praising only Van Dijk all the time, then the rest of the defensive unit might feel left out.
True, Matip and Gomez are not at the level of Van Dijk, but to win football matches, you need 11 players on the pitch.
The former Celtic star alone cannot protect the Liverpool citadel. You need a team around him.
