Manchester United are still searching for their first back-to-back league wins under Ruben Amorim after the latest setback against Brentford.
Even with a missed penalty from Bruno Fernandes and calls for Brentford to have gone down to ten men, United’s issues ran deeper than those moments.
The performance was again lacking in attack, with defensive mistakes adding to the frustration. It is a mix that rarely ends well over time.
Amorim’s future is once again a talking point, and after the game, Matheus Cunha spoke up about where he feels the responsibility lies.
Matheus Cunha responds to Ruben Amorim question

Before the match, Amorim noted that Bryan Mbeumo stood out from the rest of his teammates because he was not affected by last season’s struggles.
The same could have been said for Matheus Cunha, though against Brentford he was just as ineffective as anyone else when things started to go wrong.
Now it seems both Mbeumo and Cunha are being pulled into it as well. The focus will naturally shift to Amorim, who has been a constant presence through all of this.
Cunha was asked after the match whether the players still trusted Amorim’s approach following another defeat. He did not hold back in his response.
“For belief? 100%. I don’t think the problem is the manager. We need to have character to change the situation,” the Brazilian said.
Spotlight turns to Amorim as results do not follow
One thing that separates Amorim from those who came before him is that the players have not turned on him. There is no sense anyone has given up, and you can see it in the way they still try to follow his instructions.
That should be a positive sign for the club’s long-term plans, but it also puts more focus on the Portuguese coach. If he has a squad that has bought in but still cannot get consistent results, it becomes harder to find excuses.

Cunha said all the right things after the match, standing by his manager and stressing how much belief there is within the team. But that support does not hide what has been a difficult stretch for Amorim.
The backing from the club has been there, both in terms of transfers and public statements. But at some point, results have to reflect that trust. Over multiple squads across an entire year, there comes a time when you stop blaming the players.
