Wolves forward Matheus Cunha has admitted that he tried to tempt one Brazilian defender to move to Molineux Stadium but Chelsea have won the race.

Chelsea are in for yet another rebuild with former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca appointed as the club’s new manager, replacing Mauricio Pochettino who was sacked by the club.

The West London club are set to be in for a busy summer with multiple key players potentially leaving, and a vast number of new additions coming into the club.

One of these players who could be coming into Stamford Bridge is 17-year-old right-back Pedro Lima, with HITC understanding a deal is close for the Sport Recife defender.

Cunha on advice for Lima

Speaking to Globo Esporte, Wolves forward Matheus Cunha revealed the advice he gave to the defender as well as his attempts to convince him to move to the Black Country side.

“I always think that I have been following football here, and Pedro Lima is a talent, he has a bright future. He’s from Paraíba and comes to Recife, as happened to me, and has a very similar story. I wish him the best,” he said.

Cunha, who cost Wolves £35 million, added: “I wanted him to be playing with me because I think Wolves were also interested. But well, he made his decision, Chelsea are a great club and I hope he plays and I hope to face him often.

“And we can talk a little on the field, try to change the shirt, but of course, wishing him all the best, who is a boy who deserves it, who fought for it and thank God it started. May it be a bright future for him, I’ll be rooting for him.”

Lima’s future

HITC reported that Lima will arrive in West London when he turns 18 years of age. Chelsea plan on loaning the defender to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg.

Renato Guimaraes, Lima’s agent, explained to Globo Esporte about the deal: “There has been progress in the negotiations (with Chelsea), but it’s not over yet.”

If Cunha is to be believed, the defender could have headed to Wolves but instead the talented teenager will be hoping to breakthrough at Stamford Bridge in the coming seasons.
