Mateusz Klich was fantastic in Leeds United’s victory over Burnley in midweek, staking a claim to start upon the Whites’ return to Championship action.

Mateusz Klich has told BBC Radio Leeds that he hopes that he has done enough to force his way into Thomas Christiansen’s lineup for Leeds’ clash with Ipswich this weekend, but conceded that the boss has a tough decision to make.
Klich went into the League Cup game with Burnley seemingly well down the pecking order, having barely played in the Championship since his summer move to Elland Road. But the clash with the Clarets has seemingly done wonders for his situation.

The Poland international was excellent in the middle of the park against the Premier League side as Leeds booked their place in the fourth round after a penalty shootout victory, and he may well now feature in many fans’ lineup for the visit of the Tractor Boys at the weekend.
But while Klich admitted that he is hoping that he has done enough to earn a first league start for the Whites, he suggested that he is not the only player pushing for more game-time.

“I hope I will play but that’s a tough decision for our coach because as you can see, we have not only 11, 12, 13 players, we have like 20 players who want to play. I think it’s good for the team.”
As Klich suggests, Christiansen has an extremely difficult decision to make with the 27-year-old and central midfield partner against Burnley, Ronaldo Vieira both impressing.
Eunan O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips have hardly put a foot wrong so far this term – though neither shone in the defeat to Millwall at the weekend either – so Christiansen certainly faces a tough call.
But if he decides to stick with his established pair – perhaps partially because Klich and Vieira played 120 minutes in midweek – they will both know that letting their standards drop could result in them having to bide their time like Klich has done so far.
