Leeds United will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Aston Villa and earn promotion to the Premier League this season.
Mateusz Klich has claimed that his most memorable moment in a Leeds United shirt so far was against Aston Villa last season.
Villa and Leeds were involved in two drama-filled games in the Championship last term – one at Elland Road in April and the other in December at Villa Park. Klich was referring to the meeting in the West Midlands.
During that game, Leeds came from 2-0 down to record all three points with Kemar Roofe netting a stoppage-time winner, which at that time sent Marcelo Bielsa’s side top of the table.
Therefore, it isn’t a surprise that Klich, who played the full match on that day, noted that down as his most memorable moment in a Whites shirt so far.
“Aston Villa away,” Klich told LUFC’s official YouTube account. “When we came back from 2-0 down to come back 3-2 in 90+ minutes. The atmosphere [was great] and the fans were buzzing. It was a great game.”
On that day, substitute hero Jack Clarke started the comeback in the second half, with Pontus Jansson also chipping in with a goal before Roofe struck that winner.
At that time, many were tipping Leeds to not just earn promotion, but earn promotion via the automatic places, but in the end, they slipped into the play-offs, with Villa prevailing at Wembley against Derby.
Whilst Leeds shot themselves in the foot for the manner in which they performed during the second half of that campaign, the fans will no doubt be hoping that they are sitting top of the tree come Christmas.
Bielsa’s side have made a bright start to the new season once again and they are level on points with second-placed Swansea City after eight games.
