Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has told LUTV that he was close to leaving the club in the summer of 2018.

Klich spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan at Dutch club FC Utrecht after joining Leeds on from FC Twente in the summer of 2017.

The 28-year-old midfielder struggled to make an impact at Elland Road during the first half of last season, and the Poland international has admitted that he did think of leaving the Whites in the summer of 2018.

Klich has revealed that Leeds director of football Victor Orta wanted him back, and so then then head coach Paul Heckingbottom.

Klich told LUTV: “I was very close to leaving. When I was on loan last year at Utrecht, I spoke to (Paul) Heckingbottom and Victor (Orta), they both wanted me back.

“Utrecht wanted me to stay. I said it’s not my choice because I am a Leeds United player and they want me to come back. I was very happy because I had unfinished business here. I wanted to play here.”
