Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (4:26pm, September 25, 2021) that the miss from Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich against West Ham United at Elland Road was “shocking”.
The former Arsenal and Aston Villa star was covering the Premier League game between Leeds and West Ham for Sky Sports.
In the 64th minute, Leeds winger Raphinha created a wonderful chance for Klich, only for the 31-year-old Poland international midfielder to squander it.
Leeds lost the Premier League game 2-1.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (4:26pm, September 25, 2021): “This time Raphinha again.
“Gets on the right, he runs at Declan Rice, he just goes jinks, jinks, he just gets it out, plays it to Klich, right on the penalty spot, has all the time in the world, controls it, and then passes it wide of the post.
“It’s a shocking miss, to be fair, absolutely brilliant from Raphinha.”

What if…
Leeds took the lead through Raphinha in the 19th minute, but Marcelo Bielsa’s side conceded twice in the second half to lose the match to West Ham.
What would be frustrating for Leeds fans is that when Klich missed the chance, it was 1-0 to the home team.
Had the 31-year-old scored, then it would have doubled the Whites’ advantage and would have pretty much killed West Ham’s hopes of a comeback.
Instead, the Hammers went on to score twice and pick up all three points from the encounter.
Football is a game of fine margins.
