Mateusz Klich had a disastrous first six months at Leeds United after signing amid much fanfare in the summer.

Klich could not force his way into Leeds United’s team and was sent out on loan to Dutch side FC Utrecht.

The Pole started this weekend in a 2-1 victory for Utrecht over PEC Zwolle, playing 73 minutes.

He has already played 208 minutes for Utrecht, compared to just 137 minutes of league action for Leeds.

Speaking to the Dutch media over the weekend Klich admitted he was at a bit of a loss as to why it did not work out at Leeds, but hints at problems he had with former manager Thomas Christiansen.

Klich told De Stentor: “Of the matches I have played, I know that I can handle the level of the Championship.

“I did not have a good relationship with the coach, Thomas Christiansen.

“He happened to be fired this week after the defeat against Cardiff. What has happened between us? I do not want to go into details too much.

“It’s only frustrating when you know you can handle the level, but do not get a chance to show it.”

Klich is on loan until the end of the season and admitted he knows his spell at Utrecht is just a short-term fix.

He said: “I love to play football and I’m here to play a lot of matches again. That is also necessary, because I will probably return to Leeds United in the summer, where my contract runs until 2020.”

Klich will get a chance to start afresh under new manager Paul Heckingbottom in the summer before Leeds make a decision on his future.

He can make it a bit easier on them with some strong performances in the Eredivisie, which would lift his own confidence, as well as encouraging potential suitors who may want to buy him.
