Mateusz Bogusz has told Polish website Weszlo that the option of a further year on his original two-and-a-half-year Leeds United deal is a factor in why he joined – and is hoping for Premier League football.

The 17-year-old wonderkid joined the club after clocking up 33 senior appearances for Polish side Ruch Churzow, in which he scored five goals. It alerted Leeds and indeed Premier League side Brighton to his availability.

Bogusz admitted he spent time at both Brighton and Leeds on trial, but he ended up choosing Leeds as he became one of two signings the Yorkshire outfit made last month – along with goalkeeper Kiko Casilla.

The Polish star stated everything Leeds had offered enticed him – including the option of another year on his current deal, and the fact that the club are close to climbing into the top of Premier League football.

“Yes, I had [another offer from Brighton],” Bogusz said. “I was in both of these clubs before I signed the contract. Leeds ‘came over’ to me, I thought it was the perfect place for me to take another step in my career.

“Club, all its facilities, my development plan. Everything that Leeds offered me was convincing. Hence a 2.5-year contract with the possibility of extension. And in perspective, I hope, playing in the Premier League.”

Bogusz is expected to begin his Leeds spell by turning out for the Under-18 and Under-23 sides, though with Marcelo Bielsa’s faith in youth, it may not be long before he breaks into the senior side.

The midfielder has been known to play at the base of the midfield but also in the number 10 role, and he is expected to be a big player in years to come. It remains to be seen when he will make his Under-23, or indeed, Leeds debut.
