Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic has poked fun at Liverpool’s Dejan Lovren.
Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic has joked about international teammate Dejan Lovren by suggesting that he is the reason why Liverpool won’t win the Premier League title.
Croatia are back in action this week during the latest international break, with UEFA Nations League games against Spain and England to come.
Zlatko Dalic has a strong squad at his disposal, including two Premier League players; Kovacic and Lovren, who are going up against each other in England’s top flight.
Both Chelsea and Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League this season, with the two teams looking to launch Premier League title bids against last season’s winners Manchester City.
Chelsea, who drew 0-0 with Everton on Sunday, will be looking for Kovacic to kick on in the second half of the season, whilst Liverpool will see Lovren as a valuable rotation option under Jurgen Klopp.
Many still believe that Manchester City are simply untouchable this season, but Kovacic has another idea on just why Liverpool won’t win the title this season.
Speaking to 24Sata in Croatia, Kovacic joked that “Liverpool will not be the Premier League champion. Why? Well because they have Dejan Lovren.”
Perhaps Kovacic didn’t get the memo that Lovren has anointed himself as one of the top defenders in all of football.
