He signed a loan deal with Chelsea [via SkySports]. It was reported by Football.London that he was a transfer target for Spurs.
Now Kovacic is several months into his stint at Stamford Bridge, and it looks like he may have dropped a clanger choosing the Blues instead.
He has started 16 games for Chelsea, but he has been part of a tactically confused team.
Maurizio Sarri is at risk of the sack after a bad run of results, the latest being a home defeat to Manchester United last night.
Had Kovacic joined Tottenham instead, the Croatian would have been part of a more settled team, and he would have got plenty of chances, with Spurs having to deal with injuries, and their decision to sell Mousa Dembele.
There is a still a chance Kovacic ends up at Tottenham.
Hesitancy over Sarri’s future puts a permanent move to Chelsea under a cloud.
Spanish newspaper AS reported that Tottenham remain interested, and that the 24-year-old has no future at Real Madrid.
If Spurs are to move, then Kovacic must up his game. Continued early substitutions by Sarri for Ross Barkley are not helping.
