Sunderland picked up a 2-1 win against Bournemouth at Dean Court yesterday.
Jermaine Jenas has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 6th November, that nobody can question Sunderland striker Victor Anichebe’s passion any more.
Anichebe was brought in by Sunderland last summer, but his impact at the Stadium of Light had been minimal up until the moment he shone against Bournemouth yesterday.
Anichebe was short of match fitness, having been without a club over pre-season.
However, after months of working hard in Sunderland training, he showed exactly why David Moyes signed him following his release from West Bromwich Albion.
Anichebe was a constant threat to the West Bromwich Albion defence, with his power causing them a whole host of problems.
Anichebe first found the back of the net for Sunderland with a well placed finish, before he won Jermain Defoe a penalty after being brought down in the box.
Defoe would go on to convert the spot kick, to provide Sunderland with their first three points of the season.
And Jenas said: “I thought it was a risk going 4-4-2, but what I really liked was Anchibe’s work from the left hand side.
“It was the shift he put in once the team went down to 10 men. He wasn’t just setting for that [defending], he wanted to go the other way as well.
“Anybody questing his desire for the cause, they can’t. He was just so strong.”
