The leading goalscorer in Premier League history is set to have a statue unveiled outside of St James’ Park.
Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to poke fun at his Match of the Day colleague Alan Shearer, who is set to have a statue unveiled outside of St James’ Park.
Newcastle’s all-time leading goalscorer is to be immortalised at Newcastle with a statue, having scored 206 goals for his hometown club, six more than Jackie Milburn.
Shearer was and still is a legend on Tyneside, for whom he signed for a world record fee of £15 million in 1996. The number nine spent the remaining ten years of his career on Tyneside, before retiring in 2006.
Since his retirement, Shearer has been a constant figure on Saturday night television, lining up as a pundit on Match of the Day, excluding a brief spell as Newcastle manager.
With the statue of the Geordie hero set to be revealed soon, and pictures emerging on Twitter of it being put in place at St James’ Park, Shearer’s Match of the Day co-worker Lineker has taken to Twitter to comment on the statue.
The MOTD presenter is never shy to have his say on Twitter, most famously saying he would host the football show in his pants if Leicester won the title, and his latest comment sums up what a lot of people were thinking about Shearer’s statue.
