The Newcastle United ace has been linked with a move to West Ham United.
Tony Cottee urged the Hammers to go out and sign Magpies ace Jonjo Shelvey this month, when writing his regular column for Sporting Bet.
West Ham boss David Moyes will be desperate to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium this month, with just a couple fo points separating them from the drop zone.
The Scot has already highlighted the imbalanced squad that he has at his disposal, with a central midfield player thought to be at the top of his January wish-list.
Newcastle star Shelvey is one of Moyes’ prime targets, according to the Express, who claim that the Hammers are closing in on a £12 million deal to sign the boyhood West Ham fan.
Cottee believes he would be a great signing for the east London outfit.
He explained how Shelvey would be the ideal long-term replacement for Mark Noble, when writing his regular column for Sporting Bet:
“I’d like to see Jonjo Shelvey join the club to replace Mark Noble. He’s a big West Ham fan so it would be a match made in heaven. He is a player who can link defence and attack with penetrating passes, getting more from our strikers.”
The 25-year-old would undoubtedly help the Hammers improve upon the fluidity of their play through midfield, and Rafa Benitez might just be tempted to sell him, in order to fund a spending spree of his own.
With the January transfer window now open for business, this will be one for Hammers fans to keep a close eye on.
