Juan Mata has praised Manchester United teammate David De Gea after he joined a unique list of players at Old Trafford.

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has written a tribute to teammate David De Gea in his weekly blog.

De Gea has joined the list of Manchester United players to have played 100 games for the club and Mata has piled the praise onto his fellow Spaniard and close friend.

“It was a special day for David de Gea (against West Ham), who has reached 100 Premier League games. He is one of the most skilled goalkeepers I’ve ever seen so I know you will play many more than 100, my friend,” wrote Mata.

De Gea has been one of the only consistent players at United following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson which signalled mass change at the club, which has affected the performances of many key players.

He’s arguably the best goalkeeper in a Premier League which boasts many talented shot stoppers such as Belgian duo Simon Mignolet and Thibaut Courtois as well as enigmatic Frenchman Hugo Lloris at Spurs.

There are areas in De Gea’s stats this season where he could improve but he’s been forced to martial different players in his backline as well as different tactical systems which he’s less used to.

However, he can be relied upon to make the right calls at the right times for the side and he could be the difference between Champions League and Europa League football for next season.
