Spain boss Vicente del Bosque has been praising reported Manchester United target Toni Kroos.
Juan Mata’s arrival at Manchester United in January suggested a new era was stirring at the club.
When manager David Moyes hinted there would be future arrivals of the Spaniard’s calibre, United fans would no doubt have been excited about a prospective future considerably brighter than the present.
And when Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos began to be regularly linked with United, it appeared Moyes was set to be true to his word.
It will not be easy to sign the German international, even if he does reportedly remain at an impasse with the European champions over a possible new deal. But if Moyes can somehow get his man, he would immediately transform a midfield that both fans and neutrals have known needs rejuvenating for some time.
And now another man has had his say on Kroos – the Spain coach Vicente del Bosque.
Del Bosque has an outstanding array of talent to choose from when it comes to finalising his squad for next summer’s World Cup, with Juan Mata just one of many who will be hoping to be on the plane to Brazil.
But the 63-year-old is also a big fan of the German side if his interview with Sport Bild is anything to go by. And one man got a special mention; the man United are reportedly desperate to sign.
“I like Toni Kroos very, very much,” del Bosque is quoted as saying. “Kroos is a big one.
“Then there is Muller, Lahm, Schweinsteiger.”
Given that the Spanish coach picked out Kroos ahead of some of the men he could soon be leaving behind at the Allianz Arena, it would still be a big surprise if Pep Guardiola’s side does part company with a player who would not look out of place in any club side in world football.
But one thing is clear, many appear to be in agreement that Kroos is a fantastic player. All that remains is to see if United can pull off one of their best pieces of business in recent years.
