Brad Binder’s Struggles Continue Amid Diogo Moreira’s Challenge at COTA

Mat Oxley believes Brad Binder’s race in Austin showed he’s not in top form right now, especially after just holding off Diogo Moreira.

Binder came home 12th at the United States Grand Prix, another disappointing result in what has been a difficult season for the South African rider. This is far from the start to the campaign that KTM would have hoped for.

Pedro Acosta is expecting more from his teammate, particularly after he asked KTM to make changes to the RC16 specifically to help Binder score points more regularly.

After the Austin race, Binder remains outside the top 10 in the standings. It only added fuel to an ongoing debate about whether he’ll still be with KTM beyond this year.

KTM has been open about wanting more consistency from him this year. Struggling against rookies like Moreira isn’t helping his case.

Mat Oxley worried for Brad Binder after a tough fight with ‘super impressive Diogo Moreira’

Mat Oxley addressed Brad Binder’s performance at the United States Grand Prix on a recent episode of the Oxley Bom MotoGP podcast.

Binder ended up behind Francesco Bagnaia and Fermin Aldeguer and just managed to edge out Diogo Moreira for 12th place, though it was clear Moreira had a stronger showing overall.

“I mean, Bagnaia down in 10th, Aldeguer 11th, Binder, 12th. He’s in a world of pain. He only beat Diogo Moreira by a fraction.

“Moreira, he’s fast, consistent. He’s not doing mind-boggling stuff, but he’s doing well. He’s not making mistakes. Super impressive.”

Binder couldn’t hide his disappointment either. Once again overshadowed by Pedro Acosta, who picked up third place for KTM despite similar conditions and equipment.

Brad Binder agrees with Mat Oxley’s comments after ‘tricky’ race against Diogo Moreira

After the United States Grand Prix, Brad Binder told Speedweek that he never found the speed he needed and hoped things would improve by the time they reached Jerez.

“It was a really difficult weekend for me. I was super slow and never found more pace at any point during the weekend.

“The race was very long. I felt chatter right from the start of the race, and it got more and more intense as the race progressed. It was really tricky.

“Two twelfth places is far from what I would consider good. We have a lot of homework, and hopefully we’ll be faster in Jerez.”

Binder has looked completely lost this season, failing to deliver results for KTM. And if this continues, his future with the team will be in serious jeopardy, even more so than it is now.
