Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia has made his thoughts clear on whether Dillon Brooks is leaving the Valley.

After a wave of online speculation linking the defensive forward to the Los Angeles Lakers, Mat Ishbia responded directly, shutting down the rumor before it could gain momentum.

The talk began after reports surfaced suggesting that the Lakers were exploring ways to add another defensive-minded wing.

Dillon Brooks, known for his physical play and intensity, was quickly mentioned as an ideal target. But for Ishbia, there was never any question about where Brooks stands in Phoenix. The Suns’ owner’s message was short, public, and impossible to misinterpret.

DeMarcus Cousins wants LA Lakers to trade Austin Reaves for Dillon Brooks

The discussion started with DeMarcus Cousins debating Brooks’ potential fit in Los Angeles in exchange for Austin Reaves.

“He’s a culture changer. He’s a proven winner. … Brooks fits exactly what the Lakers need right now. You’re getting a two-way player, compared to a one-sided player. Why wouldn’t you do it?” Cousins said.

That quote summed up the Lakers’ logic. They have struggled defensively this season and lacked a true perimeter enforcer outside of Jarred Vanderbilt.

Brooks, who brings energy and accountability, was seen as the kind of personality that could shift a locker room dynamic.

However, there has been no concrete discussion between the two teams. The rumor gained attention mainly through social media speculation and fan-driven scenarios.

Even so, the idea reached Ishbia’s radar quickly, and his response was as decisive as his reputation suggests.

Mat Ishbia shuts down Dillon Brooks to LA Lakers talk instantly

Upon seeing the discussion about Brooks being traded, Ishbia went straight to the point. On his official account, Mat Ishbia wrote, “Don’t bother calling… Suns aren’t interested. Dillon’s not going anywhere.”

It was a message designed to close the door completely. Ishbia’s comment left no room for negotiation or interpretation, confirming that Brooks is part of the Suns’ long-term vision.

The owner has been vocal about loyalty and consistency since taking over, and this was another example of his approach.

Brooks has become one of the emotional leaders in Phoenix, setting the tone on defense and holding teammates accountable. He averages double digits in scoring while ranking among the team leaders in defensive efficiency.

For Ishbia, keeping that balance intact matters more than short-term trade ideas as speculation may come and go, but Ishbia’s stance is clear.

Dillon Brooks remains a Sun, and that will not change anytime soon. The quick response was not just about one player, it was about a culture Ishbia continues to build, one based on trust, belief, and clarity.
