Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jesse Marsch has claimed that he wants to give Kalvin Phillips a bigger role at Leeds United.
The midfielder is already one of the Whites’ most important players on the pitch, but Marsch wants to work towards the Yorkshire Pirlo becoming a leader off of it.
Phillips is currently out injured, and while Marsch says it’s key to get him back fit, he also believes it’s important that he has more responsibility within the squad.

Marsch spoke about leaders within the Leeds squad.
“Patrick Bamford has a lot of personality and I want to challenge Kalvin Phillips to have a bigger and bigger role in the team. He’s so important in terms of getting him healthy, but getting him to take a bigger role in the team I think will be massively important as well,” Marsch said.

Phillips is exactly the type of player who should be taking up a leadership role at Leeds.
He’s a local lad who knows what the club is supposed to mean to players and fans alike, and on top of that, he’s genuinely a good person.
He was the first person to console Bukayo Saka after the Euro 2020 final penalty shootout, and his humility was evident to everyone during Leeds’ Amazon Prime documentary.
Phillips is a fantastic footballer, and if he’s trusted by Marsch, he could be a brilliant leader and maybe even the club’s captain one day.
