‘Massive threat’: Jermaine Beckford says Leeds have a player who’s almost as fast as he was

Speaking on the Official Leeds United Podcast, Jermaine Beckford has been speaking about Leeds’ new signing Dan James.

The Welshman arrived on deadline day for £25m, and it’s fair to say United supporters are excited by the prospect of James flying down the wing.

Beckford believes that his pace will make him a huge threat, claiming that the former Manchester United ace is almost as fast as he used to be.

Beckford gave his verdict on James.

“He’s gonna bring pace isn’t he. He’s going to bring a lot of pace, and you could be the best football player in the world, but if you don’t have pace, you’ll never get past a player. The hardest thing to defend against is pace, look at someone like Traore at Wolves, he’s pacey, he’s just pure pace. If your first touch is decent and you can navigate the ball well enough, which Dan James can do, if he can add a bit of upper body strength, he will give us a massive, massive threat,” Beckford said.

“He’s rapid, he’d have given me a bit of a test I’ll be honest, but I’d still smoke him,” The former striker said later in the podcast.

Imagine that race

We’d pay good money to see a race between James and prime Beckford.

Let’s not forget, Beckford was one of the fastest strikers around during his heyday, and while James is absolutely rapid, it’s hard to say whether he’s as quick as Beckford was.

Regardless, the winger will bring pace to this Leeds team, and that’s a very frightening prospect for opposition defences this season.
