Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to rumours that Eddie Nketiah has rejected a new contract.
The Athletic report that Arsenal offered their academy product a new deal to ‘protect his value’, but it’s been turned down by the striker.
Nketiah didn’t earn the game time he would have liked at Arsenal last season, so it’s understandable that he is keeping his cards on the table, in that regard.
Even in his current situation, the question has to be asked whether he would be first-choice at Arsenal for the forthcoming campaign?
And realistically, the answer would be no, he might not even be first-change from the bench.
Arsenal fans aren’t surprised at the rumours about Nketiah rejecting a new deal, but they have questioned what value the club are trying to protect.
Whilst players, such as Rhian Brewster and Dominic Solanke have made big-money moves in the Premier League before, by only having one top-flight goal between them, it’s still going to be very difficult to see a team putting big bucks on the table for the Arsenal man.
For Nketiah’s own future, it’s best that he does indeed move on because his career will continue to stagnate playing a back-up role in North London.
Those poacher-like qualities and ability to score crucial goals will be more than useful to a bottom half Premier League club looking to break into the top ten.
But with these rumours of Nketiah turning down a new contract, he has probably made his intentions clear.
