Newcastle United supporters on Twitter are rejoicing over some interesting Paul Dummett developments.
On Wednesday, the long-serving defender was spotted in Eddie Howe’s training session for the first time.
The 30-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for Newcastle in any competition this season.
But with 143 Premier League appearances under his belt, getting him fully fit has been described as a ‘massive boost’ by The Chronicle as the Magpies look to avoid relegation into the Championship.
Here’s how some Newcastle supporters reacted to seeing Dummett at the club’s Benton base.
More is needed
This is undeniably a big boost for the St James’s Park outfit, it has to be said.
Remember, Newcastle have shipped 41 Premier League goals and we’re only halfway through the campaign – more than any other team – so the return of an experienced defender is major.
However, much more than Dummett is needed before the Magpies can even dream about staying in the Premier League.
As well as having the division’s worst defensive record, United have only managed 18 goals in as many Premier League outings this season and averaging one goal per game isn’t enough if you’re leaky at the.
The good news is, Newcastle’s owners are worth in excess of £320 billion so it’s safe to say that Howe will be spending money in the January transfer window.
However, it’s worth noting that even if the 43-year-old does sign some big players next month, Premier League experience is massive and that’s why, despite a cliche, Dummett could represent a new signing.
