Speaking on The Kopite Podcast, Jamie Carragher has been discussing some of Liverpool’s injury issues of late and which player he thinks the Reds are missing most.

The Merseyside club have had no luck as of late. Just this weekend the likes of Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Virgil van Dijk were all sidelined with injuries, and it’s fair to say that the Reds missed a number of their star players against Brighton.

Interestingly though, Carragher feels that the player Liverpool missed the most at the weekend was Nunez, stating that the attack feels so much more alive when he is on the pitch, even if he misses a lot of chances.

Carragher says Nunez is missed

The pundit spoke about the injury situation.

“On injuries, Jota is back in two weeks, van Dijk and Firmino not too long after that, Diaz is back in March, Nunez missed the last game, assuming he’ll be ready for Chelsea. Who out of those do you think will help us most?” Carragher was asked.

“I think Nunez was a massive miss at Brighton. As of late we’ve been playing in basketball games, but against Brighton we got battered. We never looked like scoring. With Nunez, I know he misses chances, but you always feel like something is going to happen. Right now I want Nunez back as soon as possible. All of those players are important, Van Dijk of course, the attackers, we have nothing from the bench at the top-end of the pitch,” Carragher said.

Vital

It’s hard to really underestimate just how important Darwin Nunez now is to this Liverpool team.

Yes, he can be clumsy on the ball, but his movement and running is arguably the Reds’ most important weapon going forward these days.

Against Brighton, Liverpool offered up absolutely nothing in the attack, and that’s, at least partially, down to the fact Nunez was not on the pitch.

Fingers crossed the Uruguayan can get back to full fitness soon.
