Ronaldo met Ronaldo on Saturday, as a one-time Leeds academy product showcased his talents against one of the world’s best.
Ronaldo Vieira’s Hellas Verona locked horns with Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus in a 1-1 draw in Serie A over the weekend.
In a cagey battle, the 22-year-old, who left Leeds in 2018, produced a strong showing against the Italian champions.
The midfielder reacted on Instagram to that battle and him coming up against his ‘idol’, with a number of current Leeds players, and ex-players, reacting to his message.
Both Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts issued one-word replies: ‘Big’ and ‘Massive’.
Whilst the now thriving Rangers star, Kemar Roofe wrote: ‘I think he is waiting for his ankles back bro’, as he made reference to Vieira’s challenge on the Juventus forward.
It’s interesting to see how Vieira’s life has panned out since leaving Elland Road because it wasn’t a popular decision when it happened.
At the time, Leeds needed to do it, from a financial perspective, and given the rise of Kalvin Phillips, you just wonder if both he and Vieira could have been building a seriously strong partnership in midfield had he stayed on.
But Vieira, who is still on the books of Sampdoria, is now on-loan at Hellas Verona as he looks to get his career back on track again.
It would have been something to see Vieira under Marcelo Bielsa’s stewardship because he would have turned the one-time Leeds talent into some player had he stayed on in Yorkshire.
