Ahmed Elmohamady has claimed on Twitter that Aston Villa’s next manager needs to be someone who has the ‘experience’ and can deal with the pressure of the club ‘before anything else’.
Villa sacked Dean Smith on Sunday and they are now on the lookout for a new head coach to replace their boyhood fan.
Elmohamady left Villa in the summer and understands the pressured environments of the club, is like as he sent out this clear message regarding the new manager search.
Names have been bandied about, left, right and centre, but it seems as though, as the days progress, then the fans will start to get a clear indication as to which path the club wants to go down.
Villa have made it clear that they want someone on their touchline that can guide them to Europe, win trophies and beyond.
Those in the boardroom clearly felt that Smith was no longer capable of taking those steps forward.
Whilst some understood and agreed with Villa sacking Smith, there was still an air of sadness about what happened because of what he meant to the club and the new coach has to lift the spirits around B6.
Villa can’t afford to bring someone in that divides opinion, else many would then argue that the club would have been better off keeping Smith.
Either way, Villa’s joint owners Naseef Sawiris and Wes Edens, along with Chief Executive Christian Purslow, haven’t put a foot wrong since taking charge of the club.
But their next call is going to be their biggest yet and one that could define what happens to the club in the next five years.
