Massimo Luongo has performed below par this season, and QPR fans will want to see a response away against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Massimo Luongo is widely considered to be one of Queens Park Rangers most consistent players, but his performances this season have given plenty of food for thought.

Luongo was voted Supporters Player of the Year last season, and the 25-year-old midfielder will need to start improving if he wants to be in the reckoning for this year’s vote.

Often industrious and a leader on the pitch, Luongo hasn’t been QPR’s worst player this season by far, but he appears to be lacking his usual fight and energy, and he isn’t as vocal with his teammates as before.

The former Swindon Town player isn’t expected to start against Bristol Rovers in the Carabao Cup, but with a trip to St Andrews pending, Luongo will need to convince Steve McClaren he is up to the task.

The QPR manager remains under pressure after a poor start to the season, and will need the likes of Luongo to performance. It’s especially important to go into the international break on the back of some decent results.
