Liverpool’s reported quest to sign Sandro Tonali from Brescia in the summer transfer window seems to have taken a blow.
According to a report in The Mirror in May 2020, Liverpool are interested in signing Tonali from Italian club Brescia this summer.
Brescia owner Massimo Cellino has suggested that the club will sell the 20-year-old midfielder at the right price.
The former Leeds United supremo has added that both Inter Milan and Juventus want the youngster, and he has stated that the midfielder wants to stay in Italy.
Goal.com quotes Cellino as saying about Tonali: “So far there’s only been a few phone calls, without anything beyond that.
“It’s difficult to talk about [the transfer market] after everything that’s happened, but I hope the lad keeps having fun on the pitch like he did before.
“I wouldn’t like all these rumours to lead to another problem, which hurts our chances of staying up.
“Inter and Juve have both asked me about him, as have other teams. What’s for certain is that the player wants to stay in Italy and we’ll accommodate him. I don’t like swap deals. We’re not that desperate.”
Blow for Liverpool
Tonali is one of the best young players in Europe and has already played three times for the Italy national football team.
The 20-year-old is doing well at Brescia at the moment, and one can understand why the midfielder wants to stay in Italy.
For Liverpool, it is a blow, as the youngster would be a great signing for the Reds, especially in the long run, and would make manager Jurgen Klopp’s squad better.
According to WhoScored, Tonali has scored one goal and provided five assists in 23 Serie A games for Brescia so far this season.
