Massadio Haidara has played just twice for Newcastle United so far this season.

Massadio Haidara has told the Shields Gazette that Rafael Benitez has informed him that he will not be playing for Newcastle United, as there is too much competition for places.

Haidara has made two FA Cup appearances for Newcastle so far this campaign, with his chances being very limited.

And the French defender claims that Benitez has told him that he is not playing, as there is no room for him in his first-team set-up.

“He has told me that he cannot play everyone and that some players must stay away from the first-team,” Haidara said.

“But there are many games left until May and who knows if I will get my chance. Either way I will be ready if I am needed.”

Haidara’s future at Newcastle now looks uncertain, with the 24-year-old surely set to leave St. James’ Park in the summer.

Haidara appears unlikely to play for Newcastle again this season, with the pressure rising on Benitez’s men.

Newcastle are in a good position to win promotion, with the campaign drawing towards an end.

Benitez’s side currently lead the way in the Championship, and they have built up a seven point lead over third placed Huddersfield Town.

Newcastle return to action after the international break, with a match against Wigan Athletic.
