The Sky Sports pundit thinks the Whites boss is in Poch and Klopp’s bracket in terms of having transformed a club.
After a wobbly start to 2019, Leeds United appear back on track for automatic promotion to the Premier League, their 4-0 hammering of fellow Championship high-flyers West Bromwich Albion hopefully heralding a return to form in the final straight.
Amazing to think the Whites only finished 13th in the table last term, not to mention losing 20 games (Sky Sports), but the improvement this time round can be largely attributed to Marcelo Bielsa, who has worked wonders since arriving at Elland Road last summer.
Leeds have enjoyed several stints at the top of the table this season and, although they have had some not-so-good results this calendar year, they remain second in the table, just two points behind Norwich City with just 11 games left.
Sky Sports pundit Ryan Mason has been impressed with Bielsa’s exploits at Leeds and believes that, in terms of how he’s transformed the club, his efforts should be spoken of as highly as those of Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino – his former boss – and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking to Sky Sports show The Debate (5/3 – 10pm), Mason said: “Every circumstance is different. You think of Klopp, Pochettino – these guys have gone into the club and completely transferred the whole football club. They’re in that bracket for totally different reasons.
“Is Bielsa up there? Yes, of course, it’s incredible, he’s in the Championship with Leeds but from the outside looking at it the change in that football club is incredible.”
Up next for Leeds is Saturday’s Championship trip to playoff-chasing Bristol City.
