Jordan Pickford is one of a number of new faces to have arrived at Everton this summer.
Mason Holgate has told Everton’s official website that Jordan Pickford has settled in extremely well at Goodison Park, and suggested that that was down to the number of signings the Toffees have made during this window.
Pickford is one of a number of players to have arrived on Merseyside this summer, joining from Sunderland after enhancing his reputation significantly despite their relegation from the top flight last season.
The step-up from playing for the relegation favourites to now playing for a side that will surely have ambitions of pushing for a spot in the top four may seem a daunting one for a 23-year-old who was the Black Cats’ understudy this time last year and became Everton’s record signing, as reported by the Daily Mail.
But Holgate has been impressed by the way that Pickford has adapted, and suggested that the number of the new faces to arrive during this window has been a key reason for him settling in so quickly.
“He is settling in really well,” he told Everton’s official website. “We signed him when we were out there [at the under-21 European Championships], so I spoke to him a lot about it then.
“I think it has helped him that we have a lot of new signings, so it has not been so hard for him to fit in – there are a lot of other people settling in at the same time.”
It is interesting that Holgate believes that Pickford has benefited from the number of new signings, as some may fear – despite the obvious quality the new players posses – that making too many additions in a short space of time could be slightly risky in the short-term.
But with Holgate’s belief that Pickford has been boosted by such a busy summer, it would appear that there is further reason to believe that Everton could be the campaign’s surprise packages if the other signings are feeling a similar benefit.
