Mason Holgate suggests Everton signing Nikola Vlasic created plenty of excitement

Everton spent £10 million on Nikola Vlasic in the summer, and Mason Holgate has suggested that it will prove to be a brilliant deal.

Mason Holgate has told Everton’s official website that there was plenty of excitement amongst the Everton squad when they signed Nikola Vlasic in the summer.

Vlasic was one of a number of summer signings made by the Toffees during the previous window, with BBC Sport reporting that £10 million was spent on bringing him in from Hajduk Split.

And Holgate has suggested, having faced Vlasic’s old side in the Europa League days before he made the move to Goodison Park, that there was plenty of anticipation amongst the Toffees players when the deal was announced, and the defender went on to praise the wide-man’s display in the weekend draw with Brighton.

“He is a really good player and we saw that when we played against him,” he told the club’s official website. “There was a lot of excitement when we signed him.

“I think he’s adapting well to the Premier League, he’s strong and he showed that on Sunday. He played really well.”

Vlasic’s start to life in the Premier League is arguably one of the few positives to emerge from what has been an extremely underwhelming start to the season for Ronald Koeman.

Everton are just three points and two places above the bottom three in the top flight, and Koeman appears to need a significant turnaround in form to keep the pressure off his back.

And Vlasic appears to be one of the players who, if the Toffees are going to turn their season around, will put his hand up and help inspire the rest of the team with his performances.
