Mason Holgate has made five appearances for Everton so far this season.
Everton defender Mason Holgate has told the FA’s official website that he is not focussing on the comparisons between him and John Stones.
Both Stones and Holgate came through Barnsley’s youth system, before moving to Everton.
Stones became one of England’s most sought after prospects at Goodison Park, and he sealed a move to Manchester City last summer.
Holgate has benefitted from Stones’ move away from Merseyside, and come into Everton’s first-team this term.
The 19-year-old has played five times for the Toffees this season, and he has generally impressed when given an opportunity.
Holgate is pleased with the progress he has made, and is now hoping to carry his good form on over the rest of the campaign.
“Everyone’s going to make that comparison [with Stones], because we came from the same place and followed the same path,” Holgate said.
“Obviously, he’s gone on to do a lot but I’m just concentrating on myself and I just want to keep doing well.
“It’s been a good start to the season for me, and hopefully it’ll carry on.”
Holgate’s good form has earned him international recognition, and he now seems to be establishing his place in England’s under-21 side.
Everton’s first match after the international break comes against Manchester City next weekend, but it seems likely that Holgate will be on the substitutes’ bench in that fixture.
